Bowie's last album demands attentive listening. It's not something you can put on in the background. It's brooding, complex and gets under your skin.
His voice is arresting, warbling on one track and yelping on another. On some songs, especially the opener, he seamlessly segues into different tones and styles.
But the best touch comes from his choice of a backing jazz band that pushes the album to otherworldly heights, where Bowie will always reside.
